Bishop Guertin High School Volunteers
The Nashua Conservation Commission would like to thank students from Bishop Guertin High School who spent their community service day volunteering for the Conservation Commission. Students worked on a meadow management project and invasive species management at Terrell Homestead Conservation Area.
The meadow at Terrell, which is surrounded by wetland and forest, provides valuable habitat for birds, mammals, and reptiles. Periodic cutting of woody vegetation is required to maintain this valuable habitat and prevent the meadow from returning to forest. Students used hand saws, loppers, and clippers to remove woody vegetation.
Removal of invasive Bittersweet prevents this plant from choking out native vegetation. Students used shovels and other tools to remove the Bittersweet.
Thanks to all who helped!
