Rivier University Students Removing Invasive Plants

The Nashua Conservation Commission would like to thank Rivier University students Isaac Grant, Nilson Perez, and Christian Dumensil from Professor Shanna Demers’ Stewards of the Living World class for helping to remove invasive plant species at Lovewell Pond Conservation Area on Tuesday December 3rd. They cut or dug out Burning Bush, Japanese Barberry, and Multiflora Rose shrubs that were overtaking an area and choking out native species.

Isaac, Nilson, and Christian are researching biodiversity loss as part of the Stewards class and chose invasive species removal as a tangible way to do something to improve biodiversity. Native plant species will now have the opportunity to grow and provide habitat for insects and animals.
